Seeing the Whole Log, Before the First Cut

Better decisions start with better data. The earlier a log is scanned, the greater the impact on recovery and throughput. Logeye Stereo captures the complete shape of every log as it rolls into position.
Seeing the Whole Log, Before the First Cut

Patented 360° Scanning While Rolling

Logeye Stereo performs a 360° log scan during transfer into the carriage, end dogger, or sharp-chain. The system builds a 3D model while the log is rolling, so scanning and optimization happen simultaneously. By the time the log reaches position, it has already been measured and optimized.

This approach overcomes limitations of traditional opening face scanning, which require additional movement of the carriage to scan, and even then only partially capture the log surface. The rotation optimization limited to lineal scanning systems hasn’t been available on carriage-based lines, until Logeye Stereo.

While the concept of stereoscopy isn’t new to the industry, MiCROTEC’s innovation in Logeye Stereo comes from its application in transverse log scanning. The patented* technology ensures the entire surface is measured without gaps of missing data.

Complete Geometry

On Carriages, traditional systems can't see areas obscured by or hidden behind the carriage knees. This creates blind spots where critical features may be missed.

On End Dogger infeeds, traditional systems also similarly suffer from partial scans and incomplete log shapes.

On Short-coupled Sharp-chain infeeds, there has traditionally been no solution for transverse scanning, as traditional scanners cannot measure moving or rolling logs. With Logeye Stereo,

  • The entire log is fully visible, including surfaces touching the knees, enabling a full and accurate optimization
  • Log is fully scanned and optimized before dogging or being fixed on the sharp-chain
  • The system tracks the log’s orientation continuously, so logs can be rotated to the best angle

Mills using the Logeye Stereo solution typically report gains of 5% in increased volume recovery. Recent developments also enable full rotation optimization during the log’s movement toward the carriage, and automated turning to the optimal angle.
